Big Orange Army Under New Ownership
(January 1, 2010)

The Big Orange Army is under new ownership. Following the dissolution of former owner Action Sports Media, Co-Founder of the BOA Kevin D. Summitt has stepped up to take the reigns himself.

"I've been passionate about Tennessee sports since my dad first took me to a game when I was six," says Summitt. He was involved when the company was founded in 2002, and designed the first Big Orange Army t-shirt. Over the next several years he helped the company grow, building the first BOA website and adding interactive elements like rank advancement, community involvement, and unit assignment.

Summitt will also assume the role of General of the Army, a position left open following the retirement of General Jamison. Active involvement in the community is also a passion of General Summitt. "The Big Orange Army not only supports our teams, but the communities we call home. I want to see us make a difference and help out where needed." He adds that there will be more opportunities to help out in the community, and those who participate will earn advancement faster.

"Mom's been sick and I've needed to spend more time with her," Jamison says. He also is looking to expand his horizons beyond the scope of sports marketing. "I've always wanted to focus on music, and now I'll have the opportunity to do that."

Jamison intends to increase his knowledge of the music industry before moving to Hawaii to pursue a new career as a Music Producer, and we wish him all the best in his new venture.

Fighting the Good Fight: Together we raised $6,144.67
(Sept. 4, 2005)

The Big Orange Army, in cooperation with Calhoun's on the River, set out Sunday for another fabulous day of fireworks and fun. But unlike last year, there were no balloons, no band, and no gear for sale. All recruitment was put on hold as the Big Orange Army focused on a mission of mercy with the American Red Cross. After an announcement on the main Boomsday stage from Col. Summitt, donations began pouring in. At the B.O.A. tent at Calhoun's, a five man team led by General Jamison relentlessly persued the donation goal.

When it was time to stop, so much money was donated that a police escort was required for the Red Cross official sent to pick up the donations. The American Red Cross has informed us that all in all, East Tennesseans donated $6,144.67 at the Boomsday event. We want give our most sincere gratitude to all those who gave for showing our Southeastern neighbors that Knoxville cares.
